Australian Millinery Convention

In the middle of July, Adelaide hosted a Millinery Convention attracting 80 milliners and students from all over Australia. What a fantastic 5 days it was!

The event started with an evening cocktail party where we began to meet fellow delegates and the five dedicated organizers. There was also an exhibition of hats from milliners offering tuition at the Convention.

The following days offered the opportunity to participate in many different workshops including polystyrene foam block making, feather treatments, bias blocked sinamay, felt making, felt sculpting, flower making, and millinery tips and tricks from yester- year, where milliner Gwenda Baker offered a years worth of millinery tuition in 3 hours!

A swap meet was organized for one day. A wide variety of millinery treasures were available for sale. There were new and old hat blocks; beautiful old straw braids and trims, straws, felts sinamay , new hot blocks etc.

The event came to a close with a charity fund raising dinner and fashion parade of work by students and tutors from the tertiary college where the convention took place.

Every one had a great time, talking hats hats hats, networking and sharing ideas. Many thanks to the organizers for all their hard work in putting together such a successful event.
