Beaded Egrets—Rick McGill, Milliner to many film
and theatre productions including Moulin Rouge and
Star Wars, and expert in all things millinery. Repro-
duce the wonderful beaded & feather headwear of the
17th century.
Handmade flowers—Di Roberton, Astute Milliner,
specialising in hat designs with hand made flower
creations. Create easy flowers from leather and sina-
may.
Wire Sculpting—Patti Carter, qualified Queensland
milliner & Tutor. Learn her techniques of ‘trellis’ con-
struction using millinery wire, and completing the hat
with sinamay bias or fabric rouleau.
Felt sculpting- Christiana Moore has exotic exper-
tise in sculpting with varied mediums, and you will
learn to hand mould felt with steam and hot blocks

Draping—Crinoline—Marie O’Regan
Royal Milliner , and recently awarded a Royal war-
rant, has worked with many renown English Milli-
ners, eg, Otto Lucas, Fredrick Fox, Phillip Somer-
ville and taught at the London College of Fashion
and the Royal College of Art and her hats have
been exhibited in the Bowes Museum and Kensing-
ton Palace to name but a few. Learn techniques
from a Master Milliner who has tutorial publications
in “The Hat Magazine”.
Block making—Des Whitburn, Renowned hat
block maker for the industry for many years. Take
Home your very own designed hat block.
Quick & Easy trims—Ashley Franklin has been
making hats for 20 years. He is noted for his crea-
tions donning the heads of celebrities, and winners
of the “Fashions on the Field” at Flemington. Ashley
is prepared to pass on his techniques for quick and
easy trims like satin bias brim edges, tortured crino-
line and satin Bows that don't droop.
Hand moulded parisisal Straws– Doris Chivers
started training as a model milliner in 1948 in the
workroom of the top milliner of the time, Thomas
Harrison. She is amongst the last trained model mil-
liners with unique style of straw, sinamay and felt
hat sculpting using only a domed block. Learn her
techniques and create a sculpted Parisisal straw
hat.
Theatrical Millinery

Jean Carroll has 68 years of
fashion and theatrical millinery experience, she cur-
rently teaches at NIDA-Theatre Craft & Design and
Sydney TAFE. She has a Diploma of Theatre Cos-
tume and has had vast experience in Opera, Musi-
cals, Commercials, Movies and Theatre.
French Flowers—Jayne Morton
Is a respected Adelaide Milliner, Her award winning
hats emphasis a personal flare, refined by her fi-
nesse of French flowers. Learn her techniques in
making closed single petal silk roses and small lay-
ered silk roses.

Felt making– Joy Manly resides and
works out of Alice Springs in Central Aus-
tralia and has been a professional felt
maker for over 10 years. Her goal is to pro-
mote the art of felt making and in this work-
shop you will be working with Australian
merino wool fibres, along with silk fibres
and other materials to create textures and
lustre ready to produce a unique felt hat.
Working with sinamay -Marie Wearing
teaches at the Canberra Institute of TAFE.
Methods of working with sinamay vary, so
this workshop is designed for those new to
it. Topics covered will include the charac-
teristics of handling, aspects of blocking,
moulding and sculpting as well as edge
finishes and trims.
