FEMININE FASHION AND OUTSTANDING CREATIONS

Traditionally a ladies' day at Flemington (Melbourne, Australia) and an event of "feminine fashion", Oaks Day (6 November 2008) also sees the running of the Professional Millinery Competition. There was no shortage of outstanding creations, and the judges chose Liza Stedman's hat as the winner, with Peta Schaeffer as second and Louise Macdonald as third (photo). View the photos.

THEATRICAL MELBOURNE CUP DAY

The head wear was outstanding on Melbourne Cup day (3 November 2008), as you would expect on the most "theatrical" day of the Spring Racing Carnival (Melbourne, Australia). Celebrities, like Carson Kressley (photo), and our photographers could admire fashions on the field entrants wearing saucer shaped hats tipped forward on the head, elaborate headpieces or elegantly decorated berets. Our photographers were at the Flemington Spring Racing Carnival (Melbourne) in the first week of November, and have a great selection of millinery wear to show you. Derby Day, on 1 November 2008, brought a lot of black and white, which are traditionally worn on the first day of the racing week. View the photos

HAT PARADE IN MELBOURNE

The Millinery Association of Australia held a hat parade at Flemington Racecourse on 2 October 2008, to help the local women kit themselves out for the upcoming events in the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival 2008. More than 30 milliners showcased their creations for the season. View the photos

GLOSS, GLAM AND GREAT HATS IN DUBAI

Our reporters Louise Macdonald and Judith Breckenridge attended the 2008 Dubai World Cup horse races, where the fashion is as much part of the attraction as the horses. A fashion competition, offering generous prizes from BurJuman, takes place at the start of the event.
